Main Street Lakewood Ranch Will Get New Restaurant and Ballroom

Excited whispers have raised to a roar as restaurateurs Hugh Miller and Greg Campbell confirm rumors that they have finalized a long-term lease agreement with LWR Main Street LLC. The restaurant will be part of Main Street at Lakewood Ranch considered the area's shopping and entertainment hub.

Miller and Campbell have been working together for some time now. Their partnership first started in 2006 when Miller brought on Campbell to run operations at PIER 22, which is now a nationally celebrated restaurant best known for its scratch-made dishes, stunning waterside ambiance and award-winning catering.

The duo is preparing to roll out an audacious new independent restaurant concept called GROVE. The restaurant will fill a vacancy at 10670 Boardwalk Loop, Lakewood Ranch, FL where the Polo Grill and Bar previously resided. For the business partners, this is their fifth venture in 12 years.

President of Lakewood Ranch Commercial Realty, Kirk Boylston said that “We are extremely pleased to have Hugh and Greg take over this significant piece of Main Street. We're all very excited to hear their plans for improving the building and the ballroom. We’re especially happy to know that the ballroom will remain in place to serve as a gathering space for our community's residents and businesses and we greatly look forward to the opening of Grove."

Miller stated that "We've been looking to continue to grow and diversify the restaurant and hospitality holdings — searching for just the right spot. I tend to focus my business pursuits on those with high economic and social value in and around the Manatee-Sarasota areas. So far, it's been a successful strategy for growth and a rewarding way to run a business."

Concerning dining and entertaining options, Campbell mentioned that "The area offers plenty of room for growth. It's an energetic and lively small-town community, and when the opportunity opened up to begin a new restaurant concept in the area, we knew we were a good fit."

The team at GROVE promises to offer wholesome gourmet meals including scratch-made entrees, culinary cocktails and savory desserts. "We're committed to using quality fresh ingredients and innovative cooking methods to inspire, nourish and wholly satisfy our guests," Campbell said.

He described his approach to food and drink as "...focused on sourcing only the finest ingredients and then finding inventive ways to draw out those flavors," and he says he's "stoked" about the new restaurant's proximity to “Florida farming country.” Separate menus are in the works for lunch, dinner, happy hour, late night, and Sunday Brunch.

"At Grove, we'll be riffing on the idea that dining out should be a means to positive well-being. We want guests to leave the restaurant with a smile on their face and feeling even better than when they first arrived," Campbell said.

The property is set to receive a complete gutting and a multi-million dollar renovation. Improvements to the building include a total redo of the restaurant, which will feature comfortable dining spaces. A remodel and upgrade of the 350 seat ballroom along with sections of the lounge, private party and meeting areas and major portions of the outdoor patio areas have also started.

Miller said that "With these changes, we're creating an entirely different ambiance. One that embodies an elevated and modern ranch-town vibe and that really fits the diverse market we’ll serve." He revealed that the atmosphere would be "sophisticated yet inviting" and "casually elegant with a modern touch."

Tables in the dining room and patio areas alone are expected to seat over 350 guests. Included in that number are the three private dining areas which can be configured to serve 20, 40 or 60 people while a separate count for the ballroom space brings the entire building's seating capacity to 750 guests.

In keeping with the formula that Miller and Campbell have perfected at PIER 22, the team behind GROVE is determined to stay away from the trappings of chain restaurant mentality and instead carry on a local, independent business model.

Campbell describes the difference between the ideas as demonstrative of "two distinct cultural ideals." He said that "With GROVE being an independent restaurant we don't have to pursue one-size fits all solutions, and we're better equipped to respond to the desires of our community."

Campbell mentioned value delivery, menu creation, social responsibility policies along with hiring, training and development practices as examples of business factors more efficiently managed locally by industry independents. "Plus I truly love being involved in the nitty-gritty everyday activities that the corporate players tend to shy away from," Campbell said.

The party starts at 6 p.m. and ends with an explosive fireworks finale by Zambelli International around 9 p.m. Guests keep their table for the entire evening. Buffet menu selections include fresh seafood stations, a low country boil, beef brisket and pig roast carving stations, salad stations, delicious miniature deserts, Independence Day favorites such as beef franks, micro burgers, barbecue ribs, housemade macaroni and cheese, and much more! Buffet prices are $69.95 for adults and $19.95 for children under 12 plus tax and 20 percent gratuity.

The search for the perfect place to eat is over. PIER 22 earns the title of Best Lakewood Ranch Restaurant from Sarasota Magazine readers.

As reported in the May 2018 issue of Sarasota Magazine, PIER 22 has been recognized as the best restaurant in the Lakewood Ranch area. PIER 22 also earned a finalist award in the Best Restaurant For Kids category.

PIER 22 is known as a foodies riverside paradise. Executive Chef Greg Campbell said his restaurant team is determined to offer guests a one-of-a-kind experience. Local restaurant and venue accepted 10 Bradenton Herald People’s Choice awards for 2018. 

Wedding bells are ringing at PIER 22, downtown Bradenton's landmark waterfront restaurant and venue, as guests vote the popular eatery the best place to get married, according to results from the Bradenton Herald People’s Choice contest. 

Executive chef and general manager, Greg Campbell, along with the special events and catering division, are delighted to be recognized for their expertise in wedding event planning by the very couples they have helped to unite. 

“Curating only the best possible guest experience is at the center of everything we do. It’s not just the riverside atmosphere that makes this a great dining location or special events venue, it’s also our passion for hospitality, exceptional client service and fresh housemade meals that makes this place stand out,” Campbell said in an online statement on the PIER 22 website. 

According to Marketing Director Tabatha Davis, the restaurant prides itself on nurturing its relationships with guests. “Because PIER 22 has been here for generations, the relationship with the community is deep-rooted. We’ve been a part of weddings, retirement parties, birthdays, baby showers, after work happy hours you name it, and many of our guests feel like family. People are sentimental about this place and for good reason. It’s a restaurant like no other; it's magical,” Davis said. “We hope that with this recognition, PIER 22 will be able to foster new relationships with future guests who haven’t yet had a chance to develop a meaningful connection with our team.” 

Aside from Best Wedding Venue, PIER 22 took home first-place awards for Best Caterer, Best Brunch, Most Romantic Restaurant and Best Sushi Bar. PIER 22 also earned finalist spots in the following five categories: Best All-Around Restaurant, Best Happy Hour, Best Raw Bar, Best Seafood Restaurant and Best Waterfront Dining. 

The People’s Choice Contest organized by the Bradenton Herald is an annual poll of its readership to determine the area’s best businesses. PIER 22 is a multi-year recipient of People’s Choice awards. They Did It Again: PIER 22 Wins Big in Manatee Readers' Choice Contest

Local dining spot PIER 22 Restaurant, Patio and Ballroom takes the lead once again in this year's Readers' Choice poll organized by the Herald-Tribune.

Bradenton, Fla., -- PIER 22, downtown Bradenton's landmark restaurant and venue, keeps up the winning streak as fans overwhelmingly vote the eatery as one of the best in Manatee County according to results from the Herald-Tribune's latest Readers' Choice contest. PIER 22 recently took home a total of 11 awards. Their eight first-place honors included Best Caterer, Best Brunch, Best Happy Hour, Best Outdoor Dining, Best Restaurant With A View, Best Sushi, Best Waterfront Restaurant and Most Romantic Restaurant. PIER 22 also earned finalist spots in the following three categories: Best Buffet, Best Martini and Best Seafood Restaurant. Members of the restaurant's leadership team, including restaurant owner Hugh Miller and Executive Chef Greg Campbell, accepted the awards at a Herald-Tribune gathering held last week.

After dominating the polls in past years, including achieving the title for winningest restaurant in 2017, PIER 22 doesn't show any signs of slowing down! In a post on the PIER 22 website, executive chef Greg Campbell stated that "Our success is built on a commitment to quality and service that just won't quit..." He was also sure to thank restaurant guests for supporting PIER 22 with both their votes and their dining reservations. The Manatee Readers’ Choice Contest organized by the Herald-Tribune is an annual polling of its readership to determine Manatee County’s best businesses. Saturday, February 3, regatta fans are invited to stay late race day for after dark waterside entertainment and al fresco dining available only at PIER 22. Guests are encouraged to be seated no later than 6:30 p.m. for a fantastic and musically choreographed fireworks extravaganza, presented by Manatee Memorial Hospital and created by the first family of pyrotechnics—Zambelli International. Following the night-sky illuminations, champion flyboarder Kristen "The Destroyer" Smoyer will put on a short performance. Both acts can be viewed from the PIER 22 patio and terrace areas. Reservations are strongly encouraged, and limited outside seating is available. There are no extra costs associated with entry into this event; however, purchase is necessary with any PIER 22 reservation.
